The Ogunquit Museum of American Art Docent Program
2012 Informational Sessions for Prospective Docents and Volunteers The Ogunquit Museum of American Art will offer free informational sessions for prospective docents and volunteers starting at 10 am:
At each session, a short movie about the Museum will be shown followed by a question and answer period. An RSVP is appreciated. Docent and volunteer training will take place at the Museum in late April. The OMAA season is from May 1 to October 31. “This season we are holding the Informational Meetings at local art associations and schools to recruit new docents to lead tours and answer questions about our exhibits to visitors as well as volunteers to help with special events,” says Susan Joy Sager, Visitor Services/Museum Shop Manager. “These informational sessions are an easy way for interested people to learn more about the museum, ask questions of a current docent and pick up application forms.” To RSVP, please contact Susan Joy Sager at ssager@ogunquitmuseum.org or 207.646.4909.
Meet the 2011 OMAA Docents This season we begin with 21 active Docents and five Volunteers. We welcome new Docents: Linda Coburn, Mary Ann Fleming, Lynne Gass, Phyllis Giordano, Ellen Houghton, Marsha Northroup, Priscilla Schwartz, Enid Topchik, and new Volunteer Wendy Kaye. Over the past winter, the docents took a field trip to the Olin Arts Center at Bates College for a special tour of the exhibition Selections from the Collection of the OMAA which was curated by Bill Low, Curator at Bates College Museum of Art. We appreciate our returning Docents and Volunteers and their many years of volunteer service (including 2011): 23 Years: Sylvia Rubin 20 Years: Anna Kristina Sawtelle 9 Years: Georgianna Gallagher 8 Years: Pat Dateo, Enid Topchik 7 Years: Anne Gately 6 Years: Fran Hall, Joan Sinisi 5 Years: Ellen Farber, Joan Hernon 4 Years: Susan Meffert 3 Years: Jean Lincoln, Susan Levenson 2 Years: Pat Garnis, Suzanne Laplante Killoran, Bobbi McGann, Kathleen Mosely, Julie Steedman. Would You Like to Become an OMAA Docent? How would you like the opportunity to spend several hours a week from May through October surrounded by great art and interesting people from all over the world? If this appeals to you, then please consider becoming an OMAA Docent. Docents serve as knowledgeable guides to our exhibitions, as well as narrators who share information about the OMAA and our historic community. Docents and volunteers enhance visitors’ experiences by giving formal and informal tours of the museum to visitors, group tours, and school groups. In addition, Docents assist the Museum staff with security, help with our educational programs, opening receptions, and fundraising events. Docents who can volunteer at least two hours once a week are always needed. A schedule to fit each individual’s needs can usually be arranged. No previous art training is required, only a desire to learn and to make everyone’s visit to the OMAA an inspiring and memorable experience. For information about becoming an OMAA Docent, contact Susan Joy Sager at 207-646-4909 or click here to email Susan. |
