As
part of Ogunquit’s Capriccio Festival
of the Arts, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art will present Tim Sample: The Art of Maine Humor on
Thursday, September 11th at 6:30pm at the Dunaway Center
Auditorium, 23 School
Street, Ogunquit.
Tim
Sample is widely acknowledged to be New England’s
premier native humorist. Novelist Stephen King has likened
Sample’s work to that of Mark Twain,
and the late Charles Kuralt called him “Maine’s
humorist laureate.” Tim’s books, albums and
videos (including four albums and a video for the Bert
and I company)
have sold over a million copes. For eleven years Tim was
a correspondent for CBS News and a contributor on the Emmy
award winning television show CBS Sunday Morning with
Charles Osgood.
Tim
was born and raised in Maine and has never lived (or for
that matter wanted to live) anywhere other than the
Pine Street State. Tim’s first album of downeast
humor was recorded in 1979. Tim has written and / or
illustrated
numerous
projects including the popular recording How To Talk
Yankee, the television special Maine Humor Behind
The Barn and the
narration of the award winning Robert McCloskey children's
classic Bert Dow Deep Water Man. Along with
his national television appearances on the Today
Show and Good
Morning America, Tim has performed thousands of
shows in venues as diverse as the Los Angeles Convention
center, the
Mall of
America and the New York Yacht Club.
