The 3rd Annual OMAA Event Draws Record Crowd,
Exceeds Financial Expectations

The 2007 “Almost Labor Day Auction” was the most successful fundraising event ever held at the OMAA, raising over $70,000. On a perfect late summer evening, the September 1 event drew a record crowd to the Museum to bid on everything from pearls and kayaks to an outstanding variety of art work by artists such as Jamie Wyeth, Will Barnet and Wolf Kahn. In addition to all of the wonderful and unique auction items, there was great food and drink -- making the evening one of the most enjoyable of the summer.

Museum Executive Director Michael Culver and OMAA Auction Committee co-chairs Michele LaVerdiere and Bernadine Speers reported that the proceeds from the silent and live auctions exceeded expectations for this major fundraising event. All of the income from the auctions will go into the Museum’s general operating fund, enabling the OMAA to maintain its impressive schedule of exhibitions and programs. Culver, LaVerdiere and Speers expressed their sincere thanks to the more than two hundred individuals who attended the 2007 auctions, and to the dozens of volunteers who worked so hard to make the auctions such a success.

The breathtaking success was the result of hundreds of hours of planning by dedicated members of the Auction Committee, including Michele LaVerdiere, Bernardine Speers, Carole Aaron, Susan MacDougall, Marilyn Eimon, Susan Meffert, Kay Hamlin, Priscilla Swartz and Steve Lizio.

The OMAA is also fortunate to have a devoted and energetic collection of volunteers who make the evening possible by tirelessly attending to every detail and to every auction participant. 2007 volunteers included: Robert and Pat Dateo, Karleen and Vin dell’Ova, Marilyn Eimon, Marjan Frank and George Glidden, Anne Gately, Ray and Kay Hamlin, Barbara Hilty, Mary Hogan and Jim McClelland, Ed Lohoski, Vance and Anne Morgan, Ginny Noble, Mary Ross, Sylvia Rubin, Rose Safran, Anna Kristina Sawtelle, Jon Speers, Norman and Jeanine Storrs, Gail Trust and Martin Fuchs, Peter and Barbara Woodbury. We would also like to thank Frank Kaminski for his donation of time and expertise.

Planning for the 2008 Almost Labor Day Auction has already begun. Make your plans now to attend next year’s gala event, scheduled for the evening of August 30. We hope to see you there.
