The signature artwork to be auctioned for the Ogunquit Museum of American Art's 2011 Almost Labor Day Auction is Will Barnet's Between Life and Life (1978, lithograph, 28" x 30"). |
Be sure to set aside the evening of Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. for the OMAA’s 7th annual Almost Labor Day Auction. Known as one of the premiere art and social events of the summer season, the annual fundraising event will include wine, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and both a silent and live auction. A dazzling array of artworks by national and regional artists is now on display at the Museum and online.
Artist Will Barnet, celebrating his 100th birthday in 2011, will be featured as the Signature Artist for the OMAA’s 7th annual Almost Labor Day Auction. Mr. Barnet is a celebrated American artist of international renown. He has been at the forefront of American art for over seven decades (click here to visit Will Barnet’s website). We are honored to have his work as this year’s signature artist, and we congratulate him on the celebration of his 100th birthday.

The auction is the Museum’s premier art and social event, featuring fine food and wine, and artworks by 50 national and regional artists in live and silent auctions. In addition to Barnet, the auction will contain works by DeWitt Hardy (click here for DeWitt Hardy's website), Kate Doyle (click here for Kate Doyle's website), Thomas Connolly (click here to learn more about Thomas Connolly) and many others. For the first time, all artworks for sale in the auction will be displayed (click here) on the Museum’s website at ogunquitmuseum.org for a month prior to the event. We will also exhibit the works in the galleries for 10 days prior to the auction. So you will have plenty of opportunities to see the works and study your choices before the event.
Since its inception in 2005, the Almost Labor Day Auction has raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars to benefit the Museum’s General Operating Fund. Last year, the Almost Labor Day Auction was attended by almost 200 bidders and art lovers.
