The 2008 4th Annual OMAA Almost Labor Day Auction Draws Record Crowd, Exceeds Financial Expectations

The 2008 Almost Labor Day Auction was a perfect event for a late summer evening, raising almost $60,000. In a new twist on Silent Auction items, Adirondack chairs decorated by a half dozen of the region's most popular artists were snapped up by eager bidders. Also included were a wide array of dinners, weekend getaways, sailboat charters, and exquisite jewelry. Frank Kaminski once again directed the Live Auction which featured art work from nationally and regionally known artists, including Katherine Doyle, Will Barnet, Jeff Fichera, and Wolf Kahn. See this page for a list of some of the artworks auctioned. In addition to the special and unique auction items, there was great food and drink -- making the evening one of the most enjoyable of the summer.

OMAA Auction Committee co-chairs Bernadine Speers and Richard Haynes, Jr. reported that proceeds from the silent and live auctions exceeded expectations. All of the income from the auctions will go into the Museum’s general operating fund, enabling the OMAA to maintain its impressive schedule of exhibitions and programs. Speers and Haynes expressed their sincere thanks to the almost two hundred individuals who attended the 2008 auction, and to the dozens of volunteers who worked so hard to make the auction a memorable event.

The success of the Auction was the result of hundreds of hours of planning by the dedicated Auction Committee, including Speers, Haynes, Carole Aaron, Susan MacDougall, Susan Meffert, Dave Barton, Kay Hamlin, Priscilla Swartz, and Steve Lizio.

The OMAA is also fortunate to have a devoted and energetic collection of volunteers who make the evening possible by tirelessly attending to every detail. 2008 volunteers included: Karleen and Vin dell’Ova, Marilyn Eimon, Marjan Frank, George Glidden, Anne Gately, Ray and Kay Hamlin, Barbara Hilty, Mary Hogan, Jim McClelland, Ed Lohoski, Vance and Anne Morgan, Ginny Noble, Mary Hogan, Sylvia Rubin, Rose Safran, Jon Speers, Norman and Jeanine Storrs, Enid Topchik, Gail Trust, Martin Fuchs, Peter and Barbara Woodbury. We also thank Frank Kaminski for his donation of time and expertise.
